Dreame D30 Ultra Review: 25,000Pa Mid-Range Robot Vacuum Tested – Powerful Suction but Key Tradeoffs

The Dreame D30 Ultra enters the increasingly competitive mid-range robot vacuum market with an ambitious goal: deliver flagship-level vacuuming performance while keeping the price more approachable. After testing more than 135 robot vacuums overall — including 22 different Dreame models — we were especially curious to see where this model would fit within Dreame’s lineup. Dreame has consistently impressed us with its balance of innovation, software quality, and cleaning performance, so expectations were naturally high heading into this review.

Unboxing and Setup

Getting started with the D30 Ultra is refreshingly simple. Inside the box, Dreame includes the robot vacuum, a multifunction docking station with its ramp and power cord, dual mop pads, an extra vacuum bag stored inside the dock, and the usual documentation. Setup only takes a few minutes. After filling the clean water tank, attaching the magnetic mop pads, and plugging in the dock, the robot quickly connected to the Dreame Home app and began mapping the house.

Like many recent Dreame models, the D30 Ultra follows the company’s now-familiar design language. The overall appearance feels sleek and modern without straying too far from previous releases. Navigation is handled through a top-mounted LiDAR system combined with a front-facing laser sensor setup, and in practice, movement throughout the home felt smooth and controlled. Mapping was fast, routes looked efficient, and the robot rarely appeared confused during normal operation.

We also received a firmware update immediately after setup, which is something we’d strongly recommend installing right away since Dreame often improves performance and stability through software updates.

A Vacuum-First Approach

It quickly became clear during testing that the D30 Ultra is designed primarily around vacuuming performance. Dreame equips it with a rated suction power of 25,000 Pascals, which is remarkably high for a mid-range model and pushes it surprisingly close to flagship territory. On paper, those numbers are significantly above the category average, but more importantly, the real-world cleaning results backed them up.

In our debris pickup tests, the D30 Ultra performed extremely well across multiple floor types and materials. Coffee grounds were removed with impressive consistency, sand pickup exceeded expectations, and cat litter cleanup was essentially flawless. The robot simply feels powerful in day-to-day use, especially on hard floors and low-pile carpet where it had no trouble pulling debris from edges, seams, and textured surfaces.

One feature we were especially happy to see included is Dreame’s TriCut brush system.

If you have pets or long hair in your home, this brush design does a noticeably better job reducing tangles than many traditional rollers. While no system completely eliminates hair wrap, the TriCut brush kept maintenance surprisingly manageable throughout testing.

Despite the high suction power, noise levels remained fairly reasonable. On maximum suction, the D30 Ultra was still slightly quieter than average for this category, and lower power settings were noticeably more comfortable for everyday cleaning sessions.

Interestingly, some of our airflow and pressure measurements produced mixed benchmark results. Certain airflow tests scored above average while pressure readings came in slightly lower than expected. But this is exactly why raw suction numbers only tell part of the story. Brush design, airflow management, floor contact, and software tuning all contribute heavily to real-world performance, and in actual cleaning situations, the D30 Ultra consistently delivered strong results.

Mopping Works Well — But Feels Simplified

While vacuuming is clearly the star of the show here, the D30 Ultra still offers a solid mopping experience. It uses dual rotary mop pads that scrub floors effectively and maintain good pressure during operation. On our luxury vinyl plank flooring, the robot handled everyday dirt, dust, and light dried-on messes quite well.

The docking station also automates mop washing, mop drying, and dustbin emptying, which greatly reduces daily maintenance. For most households, the system still provides a genuinely hands-free experience.

However, this is also where some of the compromises become more noticeable compared to Dreame’s higher-end models. The D30 Ultra does not include hot water mop washing or hot air drying, and there are no temperature controls available in the app. Based on what we observed, the system relies on room-temperature water and air for both cleaning and drying the pads.

There’s also no dedicated detergent solution tank, even though the dock still physically includes the space where one would normally sit. Dreame instead uses that compartment to store extra vacuum bags. In addition, the robot itself does not appear to carry an onboard clean water tank, meaning users may need to adjust mop washing frequency settings to keep the pads adequately wet during larger cleaning sessions.

None of these omissions make the mopping system bad, but they do reinforce the idea that Dreame intentionally prioritized vacuuming performance over premium mopping features in order to keep costs lower.

Obstacle Avoidance Is the Biggest Weakness

If there’s one area where the D30 Ultra clearly struggles, it’s obstacle avoidance.

In our testing, the robot frequently failed to recognize smaller objects, especially on carpet. Cables, clutter, and simulated pet waste proved particularly challenging, and overall obstacle avoidance performance landed well below average for the category. Hard floors produced slightly better results, but the robot still lacked the confidence and precision we’ve seen from Dreame’s more advanced models equipped with cameras and additional sensors.

This limitation likely comes down to hardware. Without a dedicated camera system or more advanced AI-based object recognition, the D30 Ultra simply doesn’t have the same environmental awareness as premium models higher up in Dreame’s lineup.

For users with relatively tidy floors, this may not be a major issue. But homes with pets, children, cords, or lots of clutter will probably require more preparation before each cleaning cycle.

Battery Life and Coverage

Battery performance was generally solid throughout testing. Dreame advertises up to 230 minutes of runtime, which is comfortably above average for the category. In our real-world coverage tests, the D30 Ultra performed especially well under lighter cleaning conditions, covering a very large amount of floor space on lower suction settings.

Under maximum suction on carpet, coverage understandably dropped, though overall performance still remained reasonably competitive given the amount of power being used. In practical terms, most average-sized homes should have no problem being cleaned in a single session.

The Dreame Home App Continues to Impress

One of Dreame’s biggest strengths as a company remains its software ecosystem. The Dreame Home app continues to be one of the most feature-rich robot vacuum apps currently available, offering extensive customization options for nearly every aspect of the cleaning experience.

Users can create custom room cleaning routines, adjust vacuum and mop settings independently, establish no-go zones, manage multi-floor maps, and monitor maintenance intervals for consumable parts. The app also supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration for voice control.

There is admittedly a slight learning curve because the app includes so many settings and options, but once you become familiar with it, it offers an impressive level of control and flexibility. Even after testing nearly every major robot vacuum brand, Dreame’s app still ranks among our personal favorites.

Final Thoughts

The Dreame D30 Ultra ultimately feels like a robot vacuum built around one core priority: delivering powerful everyday vacuuming performance at a more affordable price point. In that regard, it succeeds remarkably well.

Its suction power is excellent, debris pickup performance is consistently strong, and the overall hands-free experience remains very convenient thanks to the multifunction docking station. For users who primarily care about vacuuming performance and want a highly capable cleaner without paying flagship prices, the D30 Ultra offers a compelling value.

At the same time, some of the compromises are impossible to ignore. The mopping system feels more stripped down than Dreame’s premium offerings, and obstacle avoidance performance is noticeably below what we’ve come to expect from the brand’s higher-end models.

Still, for the right buyer, those trade-offs may be completely acceptable. If your priorities center around strong suction, reliable everyday cleaning, and low-maintenance operation, the Dreame D30 Ultra is absolutely worth considering. But if advanced navigation, superior obstacle avoidance, or premium mopping features are high on your wish list, you may be happier stepping up to one of Dreame’s more advanced flagship models.
