Narwal Flow Review: Real-World Testing, Reddit Insights & How It Compares to Top Robot Vacuums

I’ve been using the Narwal Flow for about a month now, and before putting together this review, I asked Reddit users what they wanted to see covered. The response was incredible—questions ranged from specific feature deep-dives to comparisons with the Freoz Ultra, UI E25/E28, and Robbo Rock’s Soros 10/10R. We did our best to test every request, even bringing the Flow on vacation to log serious hours, including time at Lake View.

For full transparency, Narwal provided this unit for testing, but all opinions expressed here are entirely our own. If you’re interested, a purchase link is included at the bottom of this post.

Unboxing and Setup

The Flow arrives with everything you need to get started: the vacuum itself, the self-mopping station, left and right side brushes, a power cord, a bottle of cleaning solution, and some basic product literature. Setup is straightforward—snap in the color-coded side brushes, charge the unit, add a couple of capfuls of solution to the clean water tank, and you’re ready to go.

One thing to note is that the Flow’s station seems to share the same cutout for solution tanks as previous Narwal models. Curious about this, we reached out to our Narwal representative. It seems likely that a future variant—perhaps a “Flow Ultra”—could bring back more automated features and align more closely with what Narwal teased at CES. As Reddit user Primis O2 pointed out, the current station feels like a slight downgrade, though there may be something more advanced on the way.

From Pre-Production to Final Unit

Before the final unit, we tested a pre-production sample. The early model came in a hybrid retail box that, surprisingly, looked nicer than the final version. Apart from a color change on the top plate, the pre-production unit was nearly identical. It initially worked well, but disaster struck during mop washes: a leak caused a full internal failure, leaving the mop stuck in the extended position and the unit inoperable. While alarming, this isn’t unusual for beta hardware. Fortunately, the final production version has performed flawlessly so far.

Cleaning Performance

After the first full clean with the production Flow, we were genuinely impressed. In a household with five people—three of them long-haired—and a long-haired dog, the Flow picked up an extraordinary amount of crumbs, dirt, and fine dust. The star of the show is the Zero Tangle Roller Brush, which handled hair effortlessly. The side brushes are equally impressive, engineered to resist tangling, making this vacuum a top choice for homes with human or pet hair.

On the mopping side, the Flow’s new track-style system is a significant improvement. We tested it extensively on vacation, where it tackled silt and fine grime from a cottage screen and porch floor. The mop washing and drying function is excellent, offering hot water mop cleaning and hot air drying. While the station doesn’t fully match the zero-touch automation of the Freoz Ultra, it still provides self-cleaning functionality and analyzes wastewater to determine whether a second mopping pass is needed.

Insights From Reddit Questions

We invited Reddit users to submit questions, and their input shaped much of this review. For example, Ambitious Monk 9490 asked how often the Flow completes a full cleaning cycle without interruption. Out of 64 cleans, it was interrupted six times, giving it a 91% success rate. Most interruptions were navigational, but even when stuck, the Flow often returned to its dock on its own.

Other users asked about edge cleaning, voice control, and mop design. While the Flow doesn’t use extendable brushes for corners, it cleverly relies on a single long-bristled side brush that reverses directions to cover edges effectively. LED lights help the unit detect obstacles in darker environments, so lighting is rarely an issue. Pet waste avoidance was mixed—hard floors were handled well, but patterned carpets proved trickier.

Carpet cleaning performance was outstanding. The Flow scored 95 out of 100 on our deep carpet tests, in line with other high-end Narwal models. Tight spaces posed little challenge, though the unit can be aggressive enough to scrape low edges on cabinets. Onboard mop heating reaches 113°F to clean pads, though floors themselves aren’t heated.

Comparisons and Features

Compared to the Soros 10R, the Flow excels in mopping performance, though vacuuming is about equal, with the 10R slightly better in corner cleaning. Against the X10 and Q Revo, we prefer the Flow for its app, detangling system, and mop performance, though the Q Revo has a slightly better mobile app experience. In tests against the Us Pro and E28, the Flow’s roller size, mop extension, and heated water system give it a clear edge.

Suction is strong at 22,000 Pascals, the highest of any Narwal model, while airflow measures a respectable 6.9 CFM. Noise levels are moderate, peaking at 73 dB on maximum suction. Among its standout features, the NextG Tangle-Free System—which combines dual side brushes with a floating roller brush—handles hair exceptionally well. The track-style mop delivers even downward pressure for consistent cleaning, extending into corners and under low edges.

The base station impresses as well, with hot water mop washing, hot air drying, and self-cleaning functions. Narwal’s DirtSense technology analyzes mop water dirt levels to determine if a second pass is needed, reducing water waste. Auto-dusting compresses collected dust, extending bag replacement intervals, and a dust bag drying option helps prevent odors and bacterial growth.

The Narwal App

The Narwal app, available for both iOS and Android, is feature-rich and intuitive. It supports voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri shortcuts. Users can choose full-room or zone cleaning, adjust suction and water levels, or let the robot handle everything automatically using Freyo mode. Multi-level mapping and no-go zone creation are easy, and the app even allows real-time accessory tracking to simplify maintenance.

Areas for Improvement

While the Flow is excellent overall, there’s room to improve corner cleaning, particularly for both vacuuming and mopping. Obstacle avoidance on carpets could be more refined, and a top-mounted lidar system might improve mapping accuracy. Adding an extendable side brush would further enhance edge and corner coverage.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Narwal Flow is one of the most well-rounded mopping robots we’ve tested. It offers flagship-level performance with impressive hair pickup, deep carpet cleaning, and smart automation. While there are areas for improvement, such as corner cleaning and carpet obstacle navigation, the Flow shows how far mopping technology has come without sacrificing traditional vacuum features.

A special thanks to the Reddit community—your questions, suggestions, and insights made this review possible and far more engaging. Your input truly shaped our testing approach, and we’re grateful for your support.
