The Dreame H12S Wet and Dry Vacuum was provided to me as a review sample, but all opinions shared here are entirely my own. After extensive hands-on testing, I’m breaking down what you can expect from this model—from unboxing and setup to real-world performance and how it compares to other wet and dry vacuums on the market.
If you’re searching for a wet and dry vacuum that delivers strong performance without an inflated price tag, the Dreame H12S deserves serious consideration.
Unboxing and First Impressions
Right away, the retail packaging does a good job highlighting the H12S’s core capabilities, including wet and dry cleaning, intelligent suction adjustment, self-cleaning, hot air drying, and single-sided edge cleaning. Everything inside the box is neatly organized and well protected, giving a premium first impression.
Included in the box are the vacuum itself, the handle, a charging and self-cleaning base, accessory holders, an extra washable filter, an additional brush roller, a multi-purpose cleaning brush with a built-in detangler, and a 500 mL bottle of Dreame’s multi-surface floor cleaner. One filter and brush roller are already installed, which helps get you up and running quickly.
Design, Build Quality, and Tank Layout
The Dreame H12S has a clean, modern design that feels sturdy without being bulky. At the front of the unit is the removable dirty water tank, which houses a washable and replaceable filter. The tank is easy to remove, empty, rinse, and reinstall, and a clear max-fill indicator lets you know exactly when it needs attention.
At the bottom of the unit sits the main brush roller, featuring single-sided edge cleaning. This design allows the vacuum to clean closer to baseboards and furniture edges than traditional centered rollers. Removing the roller for maintenance or replacement is straightforward, and the protective cover pops off easily for rinsing under the sink.
The clean water tank is located at the rear of the unit and is fully removable. One detail I particularly appreciate is the low-profile refill design, which makes it easy to fill under shallow sinks without awkward angles. Once filled, the tank snaps securely back into place.

Controls, Display, and Cleaning Modes
Control buttons are conveniently placed on the handle, allowing you to power the unit on and off, switch modes, and activate self-cleaning. The top-mounted display clearly shows the current cleaning mode, battery status, and drying reminders. Available modes include Auto, Max, Turbo, and a suction-only mode for dry debris without liquid.
A clever touch is how the display automatically reorients when the vacuum is docked on the charging base. This makes it easier to read cleaning or drying progress when the unit is stored upright against a wall.
Setup, Charging, and Storage
Setting up the Dreame H12S takes just a few minutes. The handle presses into place with a satisfying click, and the accessory holders slide easily onto the charging base. Once everything is assembled, the vacuum simply drops onto the base station, where it aligns with the charging contacts and begins charging automatically.
The charging station also doubles as the self-cleaning and drying dock, keeping everything contained and organized in one spot.
Real-World Cleaning Performance
After completing a full cleaning session, the results were immediately apparent. Removing the dirty water tank revealed a significant amount of debris, including pet hair, crumbs, dust, and general household mess. The filter did an excellent job trapping hair, while heavier sediment settled at the bottom of the tank, making it very clear just how much the vacuum had picked up.
The brush roller itself looked impressively clean after running the self-cleaning and hot air drying cycle. While some pet hair did accumulate near the edge where the roller meets the housing—a common occurrence with edge-cleaning designs—this area is easy to wipe down during routine maintenance.
Performance Testing and Measured Results
Having tested more than 20 wet and dry vacuums, I can confidently say the Dreame H12S performs at or above average in key areas. Noise levels measure around 76 decibels, which is right in line with most competitors. Airflow and in-use suction both tested above average, indicating strong real-world cleaning ability.
Despite a lower rated power of 200 watts compared to the category average, the H12S uses that power efficiently. Battery life clocks in at approximately 35 minutes, which is more than enough time to clean most homes once or even twice on a single charge.
Another advantage is tank capacity. The clean water tank is larger than average, and the dirty water tank also holds more than many competing models. In practice, this means fewer trips to the sink to refill or empty tanks during longer cleaning sessions.
Features: What You Get and What You Don’t
The Dreame H12S includes many of the features users expect from a modern wet and dry vacuum, such as self-cleaning and hot air drying, with drying temperatures reaching up to 131°F. Single-sided edge cleaning is also present and effective.

That said, there are a few features not included, such as steam cleaning, hot water self-cleaning, LED headlights, dual-sided edge cleaning, self-propulsion, and 180-degree lie-flat cleaning. While these would be nice additions, they are typically found on more expensive, flagship models. Importantly, the H12S already overachieves for its price point, so these omissions feel more like trade-offs than shortcomings.

Final Verdict: Is the Dreame H12S Worth It?
The Dreame H12S delivers excellent value by combining strong cleaning performance, efficient power usage, and thoughtful design at a price that undercuts many competitors. In fact, during in-use testing, it outperformed both the Dreame H12 Pro and the Dreame H14, largely due to its powerful Max Mode, which those models lack.
While I would love to see quieter or faster drying, LED headlights, and lie-flat capability in a future version, none of these are dealbreakers. For households with kids, pets, and everyday messes, the Dreame H12S proves to be a reliable, capable, and well-rounded wet and dry vacuum.
If you’re looking for strong performance without paying a premium for features you may not need, the Dreame H12S is an easy recommendation.
